Saturday night at Tarahumara brings a good crowd, fun atmosphere and live music to the Tequileria. While the Tequileria was busy when we arrived, there was no wait for a table on the restaurant side of the popular Mexican eatery. We were happy to find the space open, clean and inviting. Our server, Andrea, was friendly and prompt, kept our chip bowl full and gladly accommodated our custom-order requests. Our food was served promptly and we loved being able to choose from a variety of salsas and sauces at the salsa bar.
I started my meal with a Ranchero Salad, which was perfectly topped crispy tortilla strips, pico de gallo, queso fresco and a creamy cilantro dressing (I also added black beans). It was big enough to be a meal in itself — especially with the endless chips and salsa — but I managed to save room for a two-burrito plate.
I am pretty picky about meat not being dry, so I was a bit nervous about my order. I was very pleased to find my chicken perfectly tender and juicy. My husband’s fajitas were also just-right with tender meat and plenty of toppings.
I appreciated that there was enough space between tables that if you do manage to finish off that entire plate of tamales (I recommend stretchy pants if you’re going to try), you don’t feel like you’ll knock into the party behind you. It’s also nice to know that the restaurant side has a separate room for big groups and private parties.
Overall, our entire experience at Tarahumara was great! We will be back again soon — but with emptier bellies so we can experience its famous, well-loved desserts!
